Deep River

In Deep River, Shaker Alousi sets down a doorway seen from the street, remembered from Mosul. Built with a palette knife dragged across wet paint, the surface holds olive, ash and a thread of rose; the landscape format keeps the eye close to the subject. A work of unusual tenderness.
