One of a small group of works Shaker Alousi made in 2017, Silent Field returns to a recurring subject: the roofs of the old quarter after rain. Built with layers scraped back to the canvas, the surface holds a balanced palette of earth and sky; the square format keeps the eye close to the subject. What stays with the viewer is its defiance.
