One of a small group of works Salem Mathkour made in 2014, Evening Threshold returns to a recurring subject: the last palm trees before the desert. The landscape composition is carried by ochres, siennas and a burst of cadmium red, laid on with thin washes that let the drawing show through. What stays with the viewer is its quiet joy. Formerly in a private collection, Amman.
