Late Orchard

One of a small group of works Rajeha Al-Qudsi made, Late Orchard returns to a recurring subject: the courtyard of a childhood house. Built with long glazes over an earth ground, the surface holds warm earth tones — sand, rust and burnt orange; the portrait format keeps the eye close to the subject. A work of unusual defiance.
