Slow Reed Bed

One of a small group of works Nazar Yahya made in 2004, Slow Reed Bed returns to a recurring subject: a horse and rider dissolving into dust. Built with layers scraped back to the canvas, the surface holds warm earth tones — sand, rust and burnt orange; the square format keeps the eye close to the subject. A work of unusual urgency. Exhibited at Orfali Art Gallery.
