One of a small group of works Hashim Hannoon made, Late Song returns to a recurring subject: the roofs of the old quarter after rain. Built with layers scraped back to the canvas, the surface holds ochres, siennas and a burst of cadmium red; the square format keeps the eye close to the subject. A work of unusual patience.
